Students eligible for Undergraduate Architecture Studies Teaching Fellow positions are polled regarding their interest and design teaching experience before teaching assignments are made. Effort is made to accommodate requests while balancing the needs of faculty, students, and the school. The GSD Program Director for the Harvard Undergraduate Architecture Studies track, in consultation with the program Co-Director in the History of Art & Architecture Department at Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will make the ultimate decision regarding Teaching Fellow hiring for each academic year based on experience and research area best-fits for the Harvard Undergraduate Architecture Studies design courses.
Students should not consider arrangements for a Teaching Fellow position confirmed until notified in writing by the GSD Faculty Affairs Office and the GSD Program Director of the Harvard Undergraduate Architecture Studies track.
Payment
In consideration of these responsibilities, a salary of approx. $11,720 total will be paid monthly, distributed over the months of the semester-long position, less required tax or other deductions.
Qualifications
Advanced GSD graduate and doctoral students are encouraged to apply. As these roles are “Instruction Fellowships” they do require more time and commitment than many standard Teaching Assistant positions. Because of this, candidates’ availability to fulfill the role over the given term will be closely reviewed (taking into account course and other commitments).
Compensation
$11,380.00 per term (not an hourly role)
The GSD Teaching Mentor and Student Lead positions also include the educational planning and running of assigned learning sessions for the whole mentorship group. This work will be completed in collaboration with your mentoring team, including another GSD Mentor and the Perkins&Will professional you are paired with for the program.
The GSD EiD team (Megan Panzano, Sr. Director of GSD EDE; Shaka Dendy, GSD EDE Program Coordinator; and the GSD Student EiD Lead) will provide you and your team with a clear outline of session topic and things to prepare for that session along with guidance and support for any teaching questions that may arise while preparing your learning session. We ask that each team document the learning sessions they are responsible for, collect documentation of student work produced from the session assignments, and format it as a set of concise images and text for including on our social media accounts for Equity in Design.
You are required to be available and give the program your full time and attention for the two weeks leading up to and for the full duration of the program. Specific dates for the summer 2025 Equity in Design programs are Monday, July 7, 2025 - Friday July 25, 2025.
Qualifications
Current graduate students across all programs and graduating students are encouraged to apply
Design Discovery (DD) is a 3-week in person academic program that takes place at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) in Cambridge, MA and engages an audience of individuals 18 years old to mid-career professionals interested in gaining knowledge within a single, selected design discipline. Participants enroll in either Architecture, Landscape, and Urban Planning + Design.
The program explores the potentials of design to impact the built environment and the active conditions it choreographs through the material and scale specific to a particular design discipline. Program participants direct design to contemporary issues with an emphasis on hands-on physical modeling, material capacities, fabrication, and assembly, in complement to the Design Discovery Virtual program’s digital media emphasis. Students are taught by Harvard GSD faculty and masters and doctoral degree program graduates in addition to engagement with a broad and diverse network of design talent, across the three disciplines, invited to serve as guest lecturers and critics.
